<strong>of</strong> rapid transit" and "to manage and operate the public's<br />

transit system efficiently, economically and to the satisfaction<br />

<strong>of</strong> the riding public in the Metropolitan area"; and<br />

Whereas the people <strong>of</strong> <strong>Somerville</strong> are not properly<br />

served to their benefit and there is little if any efficiency<br />

in the so-called transfer point at Lechmere Station<br />

and the M.T.A. is not in operation within the <strong>Somerville</strong><br />

Area for the "satisfaction <strong>of</strong> the riding public" and<br />

Whereas, all <strong>of</strong> the proposed future projects<br />

"aubject to Legislative Authority" exclude the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Somerville</strong> and propose to continue Lechmere facilities for<br />

the- use <strong>of</strong> <strong>Somerville</strong> riding public with its attendant<br />

delays and inconvenience;<br />

BE IT RESOLVED THAT The <strong>Somerville</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Alder_men<br />

onjbehalf <strong>of</strong> our riding pubTic, with the potential <strong>of</strong><br />

B57CXX) people demand that proper consideration be given,<br />

to these people who have borne the burden <strong>of</strong> inconvenience,<br />

delay and elements for years in the use: <strong>of</strong> the M.T.A._and<br />

petition for a reduction <strong>of</strong> Gas- rat'es, and be it further<br />

that the Department <strong>of</strong> Public- UtilitJ.es<br />

be respectfully requested to 1 extend- the benefits o£^ a^<br />

reduction in Gas rates to the consumers <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

and Ninety-two Cents ($5,345«92) to cover the agreed^in-<br />

creases for the employees <strong>of</strong> the Welfare Department as <strong>of</strong>.<br />

July 1, 1948, s-uch amount to be included in the 1948 tax<br />

rate*.<br />
