I am sure your Honorable Board<br />

are all well acquainted with the present unsatisfactory<br />

condition "for travel <strong>of</strong> practically the entire length <strong>of</strong><br />

Broadway, due to abnormal winter conditions, heavy travql,<br />

etc.<br />

It is very necessary and desirable to put this way<br />

in first class passable condition as soon as possible, for<br />

many reasons, and particularly, to ensure the safety <strong>of</strong><br />

those using the way.<br />

You have before you, my communication requesting_<br />

approval to an appropriation <strong>of</strong> J25,pOQyOOja3 the Clty^s<br />

contribution 'toward "the re-build ing, and resurfacing <strong>of</strong> the<br />

entire length <strong>of</strong> Broadway.<br />

A hearing is to be_held within the next week or two<br />

-_ - County_'Conrnil"s"slone"rs <strong>of</strong> Middlesex County, at East<br />

Cambridge_, ~a~t~~which time we must be in a position to advise<br />

that Board whether or not <strong>Somerville</strong> is willing to pay Its<br />

proportionate cost <strong>of</strong> the resurfacing <strong>of</strong> Broadway. There*<br />

fore, it is most important for your Honorable Board to take<br />

action at the Special Meeting <strong>of</strong> your Board on Friday,<br />

April 2, 1948.<br />
