That the <strong>City</strong> Solicitor render to this<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Aldermen, a legal opinion as to the powers <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Police and_F_ire_Dgpartment3_j,_in the regulation and enforce-<br />

ment <strong>of</strong> laws_ relating to the control <strong>of</strong> attendance in Movie<br />

Theatres and other public places <strong>of</strong> Assembly.<br />

Resolution<br />

WHEREAS: "74665<br />

the Committee on Public-Health <strong>of</strong> the<br />

State Legislature is at present considering House Bill #1748,<br />

the so-called Birth Control_.BijJlf and<br />

WHEREAS: the acceptance <strong>of</strong> such an unsound<br />

measure would amend our present Statutes which have satis-<br />

factorily safeguarded and guaranteed the morals <strong>of</strong> the<br />

general public and our normal family life since their en-<br />

actment in 1879, and<br />

WHEREAS: such unethical and unessential legis-<br />

lation as proposed, is contrary to God's Laws and Nature's<br />

Laws, would seriously threaten our noblest and finest sense<br />

<strong>of</strong> morality, and would Imperil the very sanctity <strong>of</strong> our<br />

Homes "the Bulwark <strong>of</strong> our Nation", and<br />

WHEREAS:<br />

the citizens <strong>of</strong> our <strong>City</strong> enphatlcally<br />

asserted their opposition to such legislation by an over-<br />

whelming rejection at the Ballot-box when similar Birth<br />

Control legislation was proposed in 1942 by Initiative<br />

Petition, after the measure had been defeated by both the<br />

House and Senate <strong>of</strong> the General Court, be it<br />

RESOLVED:<br />

that we, the members <strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong><br />

Aldermen for these reasons, and fully sustaining the will<br />

<strong>of</strong> the people <strong>of</strong> our <strong>City</strong>, unhesitatingly register our_<br />

most strenuous objections and opposition to the enactment<br />
