About EMC Navisphere CLIStorage-system configuration and management with the CLIBefore you can configure or manage shared storage systems with theCLI, you need to set up the Navisphere environment. Forconvenience with certain operations, you may want to useNavisphere Manager. Manager has a different architecture from theCLI, as explained on page 22.!IMPORTANTUntil you enable data access control for a storage system, any serverconnected to it can write to any LUN on it. To ensure that servers donot write to LUNs that do not belong to them, the procedures belowassume that either just one server is physically connected to theshared storage system or that just one server has been powered upsince the servers were connected to the storage system. You will usethis server (called the configuration server) to configure the storagesystem.Installing Navisphere CLIInstall the CLI on the host you want to manage, as explained in theEMC CLARiiON server support products installation guide for youroperating system.Setting up the host or SP agentConfigure the SP agent on each SP in the storage system, explained inthe Navisphere Manager online help.Configure the host agent on the server, explained in the EMCCLARiiON server support products installation guide for youroperating system.Configuring a storage system with the CLIFor an unshared storage overview, see the section “Storage setup andmanagement overview” on page 52.For a shared storage overview, see the section “Shared storage setupand management overview” on page 290.26 EMC Navisphere Command Line Interface (CLI) Reference
About EMC Navisphere CLIConfiguring and managing remote mirrorsSince the CLI communicates with the SP agent through one SP at atime, using the CLI to configure and manage a remote mirror isinefficient. We recommend that you use Navisphere Manager to dothis because it can monitor both SPs on the primary and secondarystorage systems and can also provide a more complete picture of theremote mirror configuration and status.27
