Fruited Icebox Cookies (Fruchtplatzchen)<br />

1 Servings<br />

1/3 c butter<br />

1/4 c sugar<br />

1 c molasses<br />

1/4 c buttermilk<br />

3 1/2 c all-purpose flour,Sifted<br />

1 T baking soda<br />

1/2 t salt<br />

1/2 t nutmeg<br />

1/4 t cloves<br />

1 1/2 t powdered cinnamon<br />

1 c seedless raisins<br />

1 c walnuts,Chopped<br />

1 c dates,Chopped<br />

1/4 c candied citron,Diced<br />

1 candied cherries,Slivered<br />

1 optional<br />

1 slivered nuts,optional<br />

Cream butter. Add sugar gradually, while continuing to cream<br />

butter.Add molasses and buttermilk. Mix well. Mix and sift dry<br />

ingredients. Combine well with raisins, nuts, dates and citron. Add<br />

dry ingredients to first mixture. Mix well. Shape into 2 rolls. Wrap<br />

in waxed paper. chill until firm. Cut into slices. 3/8 inch thick.<br />

Decorate with cherries and nuts if desired. Place on greased baking<br />

sheet. Bake at 350 deg for 15 minutes. Yield 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
