Published about 30 years ago, this volume remains a valuable resource, for it offers<br />

the reader the background knowledge against which current developments in CS<br />

research can be better understood. In particular, the volume provides insights into<br />

various aspects of CS, ranging from developmental aspects, linguistic aspects,<br />

pedagogical aspects, <strong>and</strong> neurolinguistic aspects, to sociolinguistic aspects of CS.<br />

maintained, <strong>and</strong> what the implications of these norms are for participating pupils<br />

in classroom interaction.<br />

the education of Asian bilingual students in the United States. This it does by<br />

examining the strengths <strong>and</strong> weaknesses of educators teaching Asian bilingual<br />

students, <strong>and</strong> discussing the activities, training <strong>and</strong> resources that Asian bilingual<br />

educators believe would help them improve their teaching. The paper lists the<br />

following as pedagogical challenges facing Asian bilingual teachers: lack of culturally<br />

relevant teaching materials, varying language profi ciencies, <strong>and</strong> overcrowded
