There’s a group of regular customers who would be lost without the always<br />

spot-on advice of Luisa Matta, who worked for years as a sommelier in the<br />

best restaurants of Turin. Here she stocks a broad range of Italian and French wines<br />

(the best reds of Bordeaux and Burgundy and brilliant bubblies), not to mention New<br />

World labels from Australia, New Zealand and South America, plus Israel, and sells<br />

them with a smile. Spirits fans will also find plenty to enthuse over among the lavish<br />

display on the first floor. The store closes for lunch but afterwards, late afternoon<br />

until 9pm, aperitif time, is the high point of the day, with 30-40 wines, spumantes<br />

and Champagnes up for tasting by the glass, always served with savories prepared by<br />

Umberto Cococcetta.<br />

Closed Sunday and Monday.<br />
