n the heart of Rivoli, on the way up Via Piol towards the castle, La Frutteria has long been a<br />

favorite haunt for lovers of quality fruit and vegetables and more. Pietro Gaido has run the<br />

shop for more than 30 years, during which time he has branched out from fruit and vegetables<br />

— mostly local and many organic — to sell other goods, such as macrobiotic products and<br />

foods for coeliacs, as well as artisan pastas, jams (the Sorrento lemon marmalade is especially<br />

good) and extra virgin olive oils from the best production areas. Other treats include Modica<br />

chocolate, pistachio bars and almond paste. Pietro has a passion for mushrooms, so, in season,<br />

you’ll find morel, black poplar, porcini and royal agaric mushrooms in the La Frutteria window<br />

(for the rest of the year the shop sells dried mushrooms). White Alba and local black truffles are<br />

available in autumn. Open mornings from Monday to Friday, Saturday all day.<br />
