Rosa, Beppe Benedetto’s great-grandmother, set up the business in 1920, then handed<br />

it over to his grandmother Luigia in 1935. She, in turn, gave way to his mother<br />

Rosangela in 1960, with Beppe finally stepping in in 1984. Since then not only has the<br />

business gained repute (as the list of restaurants it supplies demonstrates), it has also<br />

taken on an ethical dimension based on profound respect for the sea and the protection<br />

of fish stocks. Beppe supports fishing that is sustainable for the ecosystem, respects the<br />

professionalism of fishermen from whom he increasingly buys directly (always paying the<br />

right price), follows the seasons to allow species to reproduce, and encourages customers<br />

and restaurants who share his vision to buy forgotten or underrated species, such as scab-<br />

bard fish. At his stall, you’ll only find freshly caught fish of top quality and certain origin.<br />

All we can do is sit back and applaud.<br />
