beekeeper who stubbornly hunts out places untouched by intensive farming —
that’s Andrea Bianco, now at the helm of the firm named for his father. The busi-
ness is based in Caluso, though nomadism is part and parcel of its production philosophy.
The hives are moved to follow the flowering seasons — from uncontaminated woodland
to monofloral areas, from the chestnut woods of the Canavese district of Piedmont to the
citrus groves of Sicily — to produce honeys of different aromas, textures and levels of
sweetness. In collaboration with a Canavese distillery, Andrea also produces a delicious
honey-flavored grappa.
His products can be found at a number of shops in Turin and province and its on-line store
sells a selection of fine rare honeys, the so-called personalized for gifts and special occasions.
