Since 1991, the farm has been producing
typical local fruit and vegetables, first
and foremost, Santena asparagus. In the
summer they grow zucchini, green beans,
beefsteak tomatoes, peppers and eggplant, in
the winter fennel, cabbage and pumpkin. We
also recommend the melons and watermelons,
which are in their element in the area’s sandy,
fertile soil. Young Paolo Gariglio explains how
the farm exploits innovative technologies that
use renewable sources of energy. One such
is a biomass boiler that heats the hothouses
using discards from corncobs. The farm’s
philosophy in the field (it cultivates about 18
hectares of land) is to pay maximum attention
to environmental sustainability. Paolo describes
the enterprise as “a city dweller’s garden in the
country”. The farm’s fruit and vegetables can be
bought at the adjoining kiosk from March 20 to
November 1, at the market in Pino Torinese on
Thursday mornings and at the market in Poirino
on Saturday mornings. They can also be found
at Vov 102 in Via Vigliani in Turin, the city’s new
farmers’ market.
