ICE-CREAM PARLORS
The Grassi family have a long history in the catering business (they own Turin’s Al gatto
nero restaurant, for example), so it came as no surprise when Luca and Marco — later
joined by Stefano Gallino — decided to widen their horizons by setting up a company that
combines quantity with quality. Yet though their experience in the ice-cream trade goes back
to the 1980s — to 1986 to be precise — it was only in 2009 that they opened their spotless,
refined, white point-of-sale in Piazza Castello, where flavors are displayed in frames as if they
were works of art. And that’s what they are in a sense, thanks to exceptional primary ingre-
dients, including some Slow Food Presidium products. Hence Bronte pistachio, Ciaculli late
mandarin sorbet, Piedmont hazelnut, Mananara vanilla, Huehuetenango coffee, plus gianduia,
nougat, stracciatella, crema, plain chocolate, lemon, melon, orange and concord grape, all
brimming over from large display tubs. A loyalty card, “la card del gusto”, offers customers
discounts and access to sales promotions. Always open from 8am to 12 midnight.
