PASTRY SHOPS Founded in 1896 by the great-grandfather of Pier Luigi, the present owner, the Roletti cake shop is an Art Nouveau jewel in the center of San Giorgio Canavese. The place still conserves all its original décor, including a lovely 1920 counter, and the recipes are original too, handed down over the years from fathers to sons. The confectionery is typically Piedmontese with a vast assortment of biscuits and mignon cakes, all baked daily using only the finest ingredients. House specialties are biscotti della duchessa, small crumbly cocoa-flavored biscuits. The shop also has a small bar where you can enjoy a quiet breakfast with freshly baked croissants. In summer the shop sells artisan ice-creams and in winter Pier Luigi bakes sourdough pan- ettone in three versions: classic, with Piedmontese chestnuts and with chocolate Closed Monday morning and Wednesday. 257

Sotto il nome di Le chicche di Gallizioli viene offerta una vasta proposta di oggettistica per le ricorrenze (battesi- mi, comunioni) da abbinare a soggetti di cioccola- to, confezioni di praline assortite, gelatine di frutta, confetteria coloratissima. Walter e Monica Gallizio- li portano avanti la lunga tradizione di famiglia, unendondovi un pizzico di innovazione. Quest’ultima la si percepisce dai bicchierini dall’estetica originale e dalle uova di Pasqua artistiche dalle forme ardite e fantasiose. Tra le specialità della tradizione provate i san- mauresi (al rum, alla pasta di mandorle, alla nocciola), l’ottima Sacher, le millefoglie alla panna e al cioccolato, le torte me- ringate decorate con le rarissime fragoline di San Mauro. Eccellenti i marron glacé, il torrone morbido e i gelati artigianali. Un’ampia scelta di paste fresche e secche completa la produzione. Chiuso il lunedì.
