Before being overwhelmed by all the goodies on display on the counter, take a close look<br />

at the beautifully presented fruit and vegetables, the selection of wines and spirits, the<br />

jams, the biscuits, cakes and chocolates that make the shop almost a classy mini-market. The<br />

Messaglia family select their cheese and cured meats from small local and national producers,<br />

but what they are most proud of are the dishes they cook in the adjoining kitchen: an infinite<br />

range of antipastos from peppers stuffed with tuna fish pate to roulade of rabbit with balsamic<br />

vinegar, potato galettes with creamed stockfish, tongue in sauce maison and bicerin (bavarois<br />

of meat, fish or vegetables); and homemade pasta, from tajarin to agnolotti to lasagna. Tofeja<br />

(a soup of beans and pork rind typical of the local Canavese area), fritto misto (mixed fried meat<br />

and vegetables) and braised and stewed meats are available on order. The scrumptious desserts<br />

include stuffed peaches, extra-light Nonna Lina cookies and the house take on torcetti di Lanzo<br />

cookies. Closed Wednesday afternoon.<br />
