Before being overwhelmed by all the goodies on display on the counter, take a close look
at the beautifully presented fruit and vegetables, the selection of wines and spirits, the
jams, the biscuits, cakes and chocolates that make the shop almost a classy mini-market. The
Messaglia family select their cheese and cured meats from small local and national producers,
but what they are most proud of are the dishes they cook in the adjoining kitchen: an infinite
range of antipastos from peppers stuffed with tuna fish pate to roulade of rabbit with balsamic
vinegar, potato galettes with creamed stockfish, tongue in sauce maison and bicerin (bavarois
of meat, fish or vegetables); and homemade pasta, from tajarin to agnolotti to lasagna. Tofeja
(a soup of beans and pork rind typical of the local Canavese area), fritto misto (mixed fried meat
and vegetables) and braised and stewed meats are available on order. The scrumptious desserts
include stuffed peaches, extra-light Nonna Lina cookies and the house take on torcetti di Lanzo
cookies. Closed Wednesday afternoon.
