The share <strong>of</strong> dry crops also has been found to be influencing OFD expenditure <strong>of</strong> the farmers. signifying that higher the share <strong>of</strong> area under dry crops that could be brought under groundwater irrigation. higher will be the expenditure on OFD. The parameters. like availability <strong>of</strong> family labour and occupational status <strong>of</strong> farmers have not influenced the expenditure on OFD. Having discussed the relationship between extent <strong>of</strong> groundwater recharge. pumpset capacity and expenditure on OFD. let us now examine the expenditure pattern <strong>of</strong> the sample farmers. The average expenditure on land development varies across the three locations. However. in the tail reaches. the relationship between holding size: and OFD expenditure does not correspond each other due to the high percentage <strong>of</strong> rubbcr area. The farmers do not consider it necessary to irrigate rubber. incurring expenditure on land devclopment. The pump set capacity in terms <strong>of</strong> HP obviously depends upon the size <strong>of</strong> the holding to be irrigated and the extent <strong>of</strong> water availability in the well. Therefore. the relatively large farmers installed higher capacity pumpsets and invested more on OFD (table 6.18).
