It is evident from the table that the variables used in the analysis explain almost 73 per cent <strong>of</strong> the farm level adoption <strong>of</strong> OFD among the farmers. Among the important factors identified. the area under rubber has been found to be negatively influencing OFD. In other words, the negative regression coefficient in respect <strong>of</strong> the variable, RUBSHARE implies that the farmers haying hi:;her proportion <strong>of</strong> area under rubber do not undertake OFD works, as they consider rubber as a rainfed crop. Age <strong>of</strong> the farmer is also inversely related to expenditure on OFD, implying that the farmers become less interested in doing farming activities as they become old. The average age <strong>of</strong> the sample farmers in the Kallada command is 53 years. The variables such as extent <strong>of</strong> groundwater recharge, the availability <strong>of</strong> pumpset, the presence <strong>of</strong> effective MCS network, the share <strong>of</strong> paddy area converted into wet crops as well as the full time farming status <strong>of</strong> the farmer have been found to be positively influencing the farm level adoption <strong>of</strong> OFD in the Kallada irrigation command as revealed from the positive regression coefficients, which are significant. Thus, from the regression analysis <strong>of</strong> the factors influencing farm level adoption <strong>of</strong> OFD in both the Peechi and Kallada irrigation projects bring out very interesting dynamics <strong>of</strong> farmers' behaviour in diverse agro-climatic environments with differences in cropping pattern having implications on OFD and water use. The above analysis <strong>of</strong> the factors affecting the farm level adoption <strong>of</strong> OrD in the specific context <strong>of</strong> the Peechi and Kallada irrigation projects is important in terms <strong>of</strong> highlighting some <strong>of</strong> the region-specific factors acting as 288
