2.3 JOINT MATERIALS
A. Waterstops: flat dumbbell type not less than 3 / 16 -inch for widths up to 5-inches and made
of rubber in accordance with ASTM D1752 or preformed polychloroprene elastomeric
joint seals in accordance with ASTM D2628.
B. Expansion joints: not less than ½-inch and placed between new and existing concrete slab
construction.
1. Provided by placing asphalt, coal-tar saturated felt, or equivalent material in
accordance with ASTM D994.
2. Continuously sealed utilizing a sealant approved by the manufacturer of the
expansion joint materials.
2.4 CONCRETE MIX
A. Mix and deliver concrete in accordance with ASTM C94, Alternative No. 2 and 3.
B. Select proportions for normal weight concrete in accordance with ACI 301 Method 1,
Method 2 and Method 3.
C. Provide concrete to the following criteria:
1. Compressive Strength (28 days): 3,000 psi.
2. Slump: 3 to 5 inches.
3. Air: 4.5 to 7.5 percent.
4. Water to cement ratio: 0.50.
D. Use set retarding admixtures during hot weather only when approved by Engineer.
E. Add air entraining agent to normal weight concrete mix.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Verify requirements for concrete cover over reinforcement.
B. Verify that anchors, seats, plates, reinforcement and other items to be cast into concrete
are accurately placed, positioned securely, and will not cause hardship in placing
concrete.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Prepare previously placed concrete by cleaning with steel brush and applying bonding
agent in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
3.3 PLACING CONCRETE
A. Place concrete in accordance with ACI 304.
