The empirical focus will be on selected state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and listed<br />

companies whose shares are publicly traded on stock markets in Finland and Zambia.<br />

Specific case companies will be selected in due course but here is a list <strong>of</strong> potential<br />

companies out <strong>of</strong> which six; three from each sector will be selected:<br />

The study will employ a multi-method research methodology. Because my questions<br />

for this research are <strong>of</strong> the "What and How" nature, a qualitative approach will be<br />

applied. Yin (2009) posits that qualitative research is multi-method in focus,<br />

involving an interpretive, naturalistic approach to its subject matter. Therefore, data<br />

will be gathered using both primary and secondary data gathering techniques.<br />

Primary data will be gathered through in-depth face-to-face interviews with senior<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficials from selected companies to make up the empirical case studies that will be<br />

critical for comparative purposes. According to Yin (2003) three different types <strong>of</strong><br />

research interviews can be identified namely, open ended, focused and survey<br />

interviews. The most commonly used form <strong>of</strong> interviews style in case study research<br />

is open ended where the researcher can ask respondents about facts and opinions<br />

concerning the subject under review. Therefore, I will use open ended interview<br />

questions that will allow me to ask follow-up questions every time unforeseen points<br />

arise during the interview process. Secondary data will be gathered through desk<br />

research techniques which will focus on reviewing various publications on the<br />

concept and principles <strong>of</strong> corporate governance and its relationship with boarder<br />

economic sustainable development.Yin 2009:18 states that; "case study inquiries rely<br />

on multiple sources <strong>of</strong> evidence, with data needing to converge in a triangulating
