It seems that free-riding may be one <strong>of</strong> the reasons why businesses are committed to<br />

CSR-labelled initiatives. In such cases both the ethical and performance-related<br />

motivation is missing. Companies intend to benefit without engaging in activities<br />

improving the quality <strong>of</strong> the natural environment.<br />

Undoubtedly, some businesses undertake CSR-labelled activities speared by ethical<br />

reasons and their willingness to contribute to social development and improvement<br />

<strong>of</strong> the quality <strong>of</strong> the natural environment. However, there seems to be relatively<br />

fewer such companies and the importance <strong>of</strong> these motifs tends to be overrated.It<br />

remains quite clear that the survey results and opinions presented in this paper do not<br />

ultimately solve the issue in question; it necessitates further inquiry and discussion.<br />

On top <strong>of</strong> the motivations, researchers should focus on evaluating companies’ social<br />

(environmental) performance.
