3. OBjETIvOS y COMpETENCIAS
Generales:
Conocer las convenciones y modelos actuales más relevantes en el campo de la pronunciación del inglés.
Comprender la terminología básica en Fonética y Fonología Inglesas.
Identificar los elementos segmentales y suprasegmentales del inglés, y su contraste con el español. Desarrollar una actitud profesional
hacia el estudio del lenguaje, frente a una actitud de ‘usuario’.
Específicos:
Conocer el alfabeto IPA aplicado a la pronunciación inglesa.
Analizar la relación entre grafía y sonido en inglés.
Explorar la investigación reciente en las áreas acústica, articulatoria, auditiva y dialectal.
Describir los problemas y retos que tiene la metodología de la enseñanza en el terreno de la articulación.
4. RESUMEN DE CONTENIDOS
1.- Introduction.
Phonetics and phonology. Conventions.
Acoustic phonetics: pitch, quality, loudness and length. Auditory phonetics.
Articulatory phonetics. The speech organs.
Spelling and sound. The IPA alphabet. Segmentation. Isolated sounds and connected speech.
Phonemes and allophones. Phonotactics. Classification of English phonemes.
2.- English vowels, diphthongs and triphthongs.
Features: quality and length. features: openness, place of articulation, rounding, effort.
Cardinal vowels. Diphthongs and triphthongs.
Description of each sound. Contrasts and remarks to foreign (mainly Spanish speaking) learners.
3.- English consonants and clusters.
Place and manner of articulation. Voicing. Fortis/lenis contrast.
Description of each sound. Contrasts and remarks to learners.
4.- Phonemic transcription.
Written practice. Strong and weak forms.
Introduction to coarticulation. Rhythm, assimilation, elision and linking.
5.- Segmental and suprasegmental components.
Word and sentence stress. The syllable.
Intonation. Functions. Basic types of tone units.
