COURSE DESCRIPTION<br />

The course will survey important works of literature by writers from old Biritish colonies who write in English. The course will mainly focus on<br />

the postcolonial Anglophone literatures of Africa and the Caribbean. By combining literary texts and theory, we will examine a wi<strong>de</strong> range of<br />

issues that are addressed by the writers and critics studied throughout the course: language and its political implications; the interrelation of colonialism<br />

and postcolonialism; hybridity (Western and African/Caribbean cultures); etc. In or<strong>de</strong>r to analyze these issues, we will examine mainly fic-<br />
