Section K. Public Affairs Operations<br />

Introduction<br />

K.1. Guidelines<br />

This section discusses when unit boats can participate in community<br />

affairs and who authorizes this request.<br />

Unit boats may be used in support of community and media relations on<br />

a not-to-interfere basis with operations, and in accordance with the<br />

Public Affairs Manual, COMDTINST M5728.2 (series). Unit readiness<br />

shall not be compromised for such participation. Units shall ensure the<br />

Operational Commander is informed of all unit commitments. All<br />

requests should be routed through the unit’s Operational Commander.<br />

K.2. Underway or Various organizations request the participation of <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> boats in<br />

Static Displays local demonstrations and celebrations. Although approval for such<br />

events rests with the CO/OIC, the Operational Commander should be<br />

kept informed regarding all such events and changes in resource<br />

availability, if any, that such participation brings. The provisions of the<br />

Public Affairs Manual, COMDTINST M5728.2 (series), Chapter 3 are<br />

applicable.<br />
