Chapter 9 – Aids to Navigation Units<br />

Section F. Duty Section Organization<br />

Duty Section<br />

Requirements<br />

Aids to Navigation Team duty sections should, to the greatest extent<br />

possible, include the minimum number of people required to maintain the<br />

minimum required readiness posture.<br />

Most Aids to Navigation Teams require:<br />

(01) Boat crew personnel (e.g.: Coxswain/, Engineer, and Boat Crew<br />

Member(s)) for the number of boats required to respond to<br />

ATON discrepancies according to Discrepancy Response Factor<br />

Decision Guide (DRF).<br />

(02) The duty Coxswain shall manage duty section operations,<br />

manage ATON discrepancies, administration (including the daily<br />

routine), and security as the OIC’s direct representative.<br />

(03) Duty Crewmember/Engineer shall return to the unit at the OIC’s<br />

discretion to inspect pyrotechnics, ensure that there are no ATON<br />

discrepancies posted on CGMS, and to check for watertight<br />

integrity of the unit’s vessel if left in the water.<br />

F.2.<br />

Certifications<br />

Aids to Navigation Team duty section certifications shall be titled as<br />

specified below. The duties pertaining to each watch shall be as<br />

specified in this Manual and Aids to Navigation Team instructions, as<br />

appropriate.<br />

(01)<br />

Boat Crew Member.<br />

(02) ATON Boat Crew Member.<br />

(03) Engineer.<br />

(04) Boom/Crane Operator.<br />

(05) Buoy Deck Supervisor.<br />

(06) Contingency Coxswain.<br />

(07) Coxswain.<br />

(08) ATON Coxswain.<br />

NOTE<br />

The number of personnel assigned to the duty section shall be the minimum required<br />

to provide the requisite boat response capability.<br />
