Section F. Ice Rescue Examination Board (IREB)<br />

Introduction<br />

F.1. Designation<br />

F.2. Members<br />

The Ice Rescue Examination Board (IREB) is comprised of certified ice<br />

rescuers selected by the CO/OIC and organized as applicable to examine<br />

and evaluate ice rescue candidates. The IREB is designated in writing.<br />

The primary function of the IREB is to recommend personnel for<br />

certification to ice rescuer positions. The board is responsible for the<br />

administration of practical exercises and personal interviews. The unit<br />

IREB serves as the quality control source for unit ice rescuers.<br />

The IREB shall be designated within the E-Training System.<br />

The IREB should consist of at least two certified ice rescuers.<br />

The size of the unit, as well as the number of personnel requiring<br />

certification, determines the size of board membership.<br />

F.3. Representation Members selected should be members of the unit representing different<br />

boat crew skills and positions found at the unit. Unit Commanders should<br />

monitor the performance of board members. For continuity, those<br />

members showing superior performance should be continued on the board<br />

Exercises<br />

The CO/OIC will designate the Chairman of the Board, normally the<br />

XO/XPO.<br />

IREB’s shall plan and conduct practical exercises in order to evaluate<br />

prospective ice rescuers during on-ice conditions. The trainee should be<br />

able to perform all duties required for the ice rescuer position, up to the<br />

standards established in the qualification tasks for the ice rescuer position.<br />

The following specific guidelines apply to the positions indicated.<br />
