Parent Station<br />

The period from ½ hour after nautical sunset until ½ hour before nautical<br />

sunrise.<br />

A vessel subject to examination that refuses to heave to after being<br />

legally ordered to do so.<br />

For the purpose of this instruction, Operational Commanders are defined<br />

as those who exercise direct operational control of a boat force unit.<br />

This definition specifically does not include the Station CO/OIC<br />

exercising operational control of a Station (small).<br />

Time spent on pre-mission planning, underway, and post mission<br />

reporting or follow-up.<br />

A Parent Station is a unit with one or more subordinate Station(s)<br />

(small).<br />

Its Command Cadre allowance may be different from that of a typical<br />

unit to account for the increased responsibility associated with the<br />

assignment of subordinate Station(s) (small).<br />

A PSU is a <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> shore facility with an OPFAC, Command<br />

Cadre, and permanently assigned duty standers, unit boat allowance, and<br />

equipment, which reports to the DOG.<br />

PWCS is one of the <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong>’s eleven statutory missions. Its purpose<br />

is multi-faceted and designed to: protect the U.S. Maritime Domain and<br />

U.S. Marine Transportation System from internal and external threats,<br />

such as destruction, loss, or injury from terrorism, sabotage, or other<br />

subversive acts; deny their use and exploitation as a means for attacks on<br />

U.S. territory, population, and critical infrastructure; prepare for and, in<br />

the event of an attack or incident, conduct emergency response and<br />

recovery operations; and when directed, as the supporting commander,<br />

transition to and conduct Maritime Homeland Defense operations.<br />

Status of a crew currency.<br />

A highly technical crew certification for the pursuit of non-compliant<br />

vessels engaged in illegal drug trafficking or alien immigration activities.<br />
