Chapter 3 – Standards of Boat Operations<br />

Section L. Trailered / Beach Operations<br />

Introduction<br />

This section discusses guidance and procedure development for loading<br />

boats on trailers, the use of emergency lights/ sirens, beach rescue, and<br />

the use of personal watercraft.<br />

L.1. Boat Trailers Units, including Cutters, with standard boats that have been assigned a<br />

and Vehicles trailer, shall keep the trailer/boat combination as a set. If the boat is<br />

transferred to another unit, the assigned trailer shall accompany it.<br />

Units that respond to missions by trailering their boat shall maintain a<br />

minimum of one ready vehicle that has the capacity to tow the assigned<br />

boat and trailer combination within all Federal and State vehicle<br />

regulations. Cutters with standard boats shall ensure that they have<br />

access to a capable towing vehicle.<br />

L.1.a. Trailering<br />

Boats<br />

Units shall develop boat trailering guidance per Reference (ii) to include<br />

(at a minimum):<br />

(01) Vehicle towing capacity.<br />

(02) Permissible speed limit.<br />

(03) Trailer hitch, safety chains, breakaway cable, lights, trailer wheel<br />

bearings.<br />

(04) Expected increase in stopping distance.<br />

(05) Expected increase in turning radius.<br />

(06) Procedures for launching boat.<br />

(07) Boat recovery.<br />

Area/District Boat Managers will develop procedures for trailering boats<br />

and conducting beach responses using trailered boats, vehicles, and<br />

equipment.<br />
