Chapter 5 – Certification<br />

Section C. Recertification<br />

Introduction<br />

Recertification can only occur for a boat type on which the member had<br />

previously been certified. Possible reasons a member may need to<br />

recertify include:<br />

(01) PCS to new unit with same boat type.<br />

(02) Disciplinary action/loss of confidence.<br />

(03) Failure to meet currency requirements.<br />

(04) Lapse of TCT (G-KSE-052 or ORM GMT-035).<br />

To recertify, the following must be successfully accomplished:<br />

(01) Pass a physical fitness test (Table 4-6).<br />

Underway area familiarization exercise.<br />

(03) Comprehensive underway check-ride. If lapse in currency<br />

requirement triggered decertification, then checkride will<br />

additionally include completing deficient task(s), to the<br />

maximum extent feasible.<br />

(04) Oral examination conducted by the BCEB.<br />

C.1. Physical<br />

The trainee must have passed a physical fitness test at the current unit<br />

Fitness Test within the past six months. See requirements in Table 4-8.<br />

Documentation<br />

The trainee must successfully complete the appropriate underway area<br />

familiarization exercise. The requirement does not apply to cutterboats.<br />

The requirement does not apply to deployed MSST, MSRT, or PSU.<br />

The trainee must demonstrate proficiency and local knowledge by<br />

successful completion of a comprehensive underway check-ride, in<br />

accordance with the appropriate certification requirements.<br />

The trainee must successfully complete an interview with the unit BCEB.<br />

The above accomplishments must be formally documented with a copy<br />

placed in the E-Training.<br />
