A.7. Boat Check<br />

Familiarization<br />

Upon arrival to the temporary duty, Coxswain and/or boat crew members<br />

must thoroughly familiarize themselves with the host unit’s boat. At a<br />

minimum, this will require the completion of a boat check off/<br />

familiarization of the following items:<br />

(01) Boat Operational Parameters<br />

(02) Boat Inspection<br />

(03) Boat Operation System<br />

(04) Boat Propulsion System<br />

(05) Boat Navigation/Communications Equipment<br />

(06) Boat Launch and Recovery Procedures<br />

(07) Boat/Host Emergency Procedures<br />

(08) Boat/Host ORM/Risk Mitigation/Contingency Planning<br />

(09) Successfully Complete Operational Check-ride<br />

(10) Letter of Record<br />

Coxswain and boat crew members are also required to complete a boat<br />

check off inspection prior to conducting underway operations per<br />

APPENDIX B.<br />

Coxswains and/or boat crew members may apply underway boat hours<br />

and completed proficiency tasks towards currency maintenance<br />

requirements for their USCG qualifications, provided hours are logged<br />

into AOPS/TMT prior to expiration of currency cycle.<br />

Upon completion of temporary duty on a particular vessel or class of<br />

vessel the Coxswain or senior boat crew member is required to submit<br />

lessons learned to CGSAILS in accordance with Reference (g). Specific<br />

lessons that should be captured include operating tips for the next team,<br />

specific limitations, and class/vessel related warnings. Additionally,<br />

Mishap Reporting should be adhered to under the requirements of<br />

Reference (h).<br />
