Chapter 1 –Training and Qualification<br />

C.3.a. Training<br />

Scheduling<br />

The training schedule shall, at a minimum, identify time slots for all<br />

scheduled drills, exercises, all-hands training, and departmental/<br />

divisional training.<br />

The unit training plan is in the form of a universal calendar and provides<br />

the unit with a flexible means of scheduling training to be accomplished<br />

over a specific period of time. It is anticipated that the unit will prepare<br />

unit training plans that correspond with the duty cycle. Unit Training<br />

Plan Form CG-5293 may be locally reproduced and is part of USCG<br />

Electronic Forms on Standard Work Station III.<br />

C.3.b.<br />

Responsibilities<br />

The following responsibilities apply for administration of the unit<br />

training plan:<br />

(01) The CO/OIC shall ap prove the unit training plan.<br />

(02) The XO/XPO/Training Officer is responsible for annotating the<br />

unit training plan to reflect what training actually gets<br />

accomplished. By this procedure, the unit training plan becomes<br />

the unit training record.<br />

(03) Unit training plans must be prepared for at least one month at a<br />

time. Weekly Training Plan Form (CG-5288) are not required at<br />

shore units.<br />

C.3.c.<br />

“This is a drill”<br />

Regardless of mission/activity being trained, boats operating at high<br />

speed convey a sense of urgency to non-participating observers. As with<br />

any training exercise, crews should diligently communicate the nature of<br />

activity with the words “This is a drill” during radio transmissions.<br />

Duty Stander Qualification Training Program<br />

C.4. Training<br />

Programs<br />

Units shall establish and maintain duty stander qualification training<br />

programs to fully prepare assigned personnel for certification and to<br />

maintain desired skills through recurrent training. At a minimum, duty<br />

stander training programs shall provide for an efficient, effective process<br />

for:<br />

(01) Successful completion of personnel qualification standards.<br />

(02) Practical assessment of the trainee.<br />

(03) Comprehensive examination in accordance with prescribed<br />

standards.<br />
