B.3.g. Engineer The Engineer should also be familiar with the following topics:<br />

(01) Boat casualties and repairs.<br />

(02) Fuel, lubricating, electrical, hydraulic, steering, and cooling<br />

systems.<br />

(03) Flooding, fire fighting, and damage control.<br />

B.3.h. Coxswain<br />

The Coxswain should also possess the following characteristics:<br />

(01) Navigation and seamanship expertise.<br />

(02) Knowledge of pertinent technical data for the boat type on which<br />

the trainee is being certified.<br />

(03) Appropriate maturity, judgment, attitude, and professionalism<br />

associated with duties of a Coxswain.<br />

(04) Willingness to accept the duties and responsibilities of a<br />

Coxswain.<br />

(05) Detailed knowledge of the unit’s operational area (OPAREA)<br />

including (may not be applicable to Cutters):<br />

a) Major headlands, points, jetties, shoals, surf zones, and channels.<br />

b) All NAVAIDS and their characteristics.<br />

c) Knowledge of unit’s boat piloting and navigation instruction.<br />
