Chapter 3 – Heavy Weather Stations<br />

Training Limits<br />

The following guidance has been established to ensure the safety of unit<br />

personnel involved in heavy weather training:<br />

(01) Environmental restrictions shall not be exceeded.<br />

(02) District Commanders may require additional restrictions/<br />

requirements for Stations under their control.<br />

(03) District imposed restrictions/requirements shall be published in<br />

writing and copies provided to Commandant (CG-731) and the<br />

National Motor Lifeboat School.<br />

The fol lowing minimum requirements shall be met prior to commencing<br />

heavy weather training:<br />

(01) Stations shall conduct a pre-brief (including elements of risk<br />

assessment) of the heavy weather training plan prior to<br />

commencing training.<br />

(02) Crews shall be properly outfitted with personal protective<br />

equipment in accordance with Reference (f).<br />

(03)<br />

The CO/OIC shall notify the Operational Commander when wind<br />

conditions exceed 40 KTS.<br />

(04) A certified Heavy Weather Coxswain or Surfman shall be<br />

onboard each heavy weather capable boat.<br />

When conducting heavy weather training, do not exceed maximum<br />

platform conditions listed in Table 3-7, or the parameters below,<br />

whichever is smaller.<br />
