Chapter 2 – Station (small) Standard Operating Procedures<br />

Parent Stations<br />

B.4. CO/OIC<br />

Responsibilities<br />

The parent Station CO/OIC shall:<br />

(01) Ensure <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> SAR standards are met utilizing assigned<br />

boat(s) and crews, or other components of the SAR system<br />

(auxiliary facilities, adjacent units, local government forces, etc.).<br />

(02) Maintain communications guards in accordance with current<br />

directives. Stations (small) are not staffed to maintain a<br />

communications guard.<br />

(03) Augment, as appropriate, Station (small) duty crews with fully<br />

qualified auxiliary /reserve members in accordance with<br />

applicable directives and regulations.<br />

(04) <strong>Guard</strong> against self-imposed training requirements (e.g. qualifying<br />

on boats not assigned to the unit, in multiple AORs, etc.) that<br />

overburden crews and add little practical value to conduct of<br />

daily operations.<br />

NOTE<br />

Stations (Small) do present ideal opportunities to train and qualify personnel in<br />

required skills.<br />

Ensure a safe, positive working environment is maintained for a<br />

assigned personnel, including those assigned to subordinate units.<br />

Manage and coordinate administrative responsibilities in the mo<br />

efficient and effective manner possible subject to the following<br />

recommendations.<br />

(07) Maintain the response standard as specified by the governing<br />

District Operations Order (OPORDER).<br />

Ensure a qualified boat crew can get underway to meet District<br />

readiness requirements.<br />

esignate a senior (Coxswain qualified) BM assigned for duty to<br />

the physical location of the Station (small) as supervisor for the<br />

watch section.<br />

(10) Confer all operational qualifications, including Coxswain,<br />

Engineer, Boat Crew Member, Boarding Officer, Boarding Team<br />

Member qualifications in accordance with all current directives<br />

and regulations.<br />

(11) Maintain qualification, certification and recertification<br />

requirements in accordance with existing policies.<br />
