Chapter 9 – Aids to Navigation Units<br />

D.2. XPO<br />

The duties of the XPO are as follows:<br />

(01) Perform the duties of the XPO as specified in Reference (i).<br />

(02) Assist the OIC generally in the administration of the functions of<br />

the Aids to Navigation Team.<br />

(03) Serve as Administration Officer unless an independent duty<br />

Yeoman (YN) is assigned.<br />

(04) Serve as Supply Officer unless an independent duty Storekeeper<br />

(SK) is assigned.<br />

D.3. EPO<br />

The duties of the EPO are as follows:<br />

(01) Perform the duties of the head of a department as specified in<br />

Reference (i).<br />

(02) Manage the Engineering Department and be responsible to the<br />

OIC for the maintenance of boats, associated equipment, vehicles,<br />

and the Aids to Navigation Team facilities.<br />

(03) Administer the Engineering Department in accordance with all<br />

controlling directives.<br />

(04) Establish and maintain a program for the maintenance and repair<br />

of buildings, grounds, boats, and vehicles.<br />

(05) Establish and maintain a vehicle operator training and<br />

qualification program.<br />

(06) Provide physical security services.<br />

(07) Approve or reject completed maintenance or repair work based<br />

on appropriate standards.<br />

(08) Initiate action for survey in the event of loss, damage, or<br />

destruction of accountable items.<br />

(09) Maintain liaison with the Supply Department; provide technical<br />

advice for procuring and requisitioning engineering materiel and<br />

allowance list spares.<br />

(10) Be responsible for procurement, custody, issue, and condition of<br />

all general and special tools required by the Engineering<br />

Department.<br />

(11) Establish internal methods and procedures by which maintenance<br />

personnel can obtain required materiel to support the maintenance<br />

effort.<br />
