Chapter 1 – Station Organization and Watch-Standing<br />

F.3. OOD<br />

Position<br />

The OOD is a designated watch position. The OOD provides operations<br />

planning or execution oversight for SAR and other missions for the<br />

Station CO/OIC.<br />

(01) An OOD is not normally required for low operational tempo<br />

Stations. Stations with seasonal variation in operational temp<br />

should not maintain an OOD watch position during activity<br />

periods.<br />

(02) Stations with two or more response missions after normal<br />

working hours on two or more days a week may require an OOD.<br />

F.4. OOD<br />

Responsibilities<br />

The OOD shall be responsible for Station operations, administrative<br />

requirements associated with Station operations, and the physical<br />

security of the unit as the designated representative of the CO/OIC. The<br />

OOD, with the authority as delegated by the Station CO/OIC, shall:<br />

(01) Interact with the media and local community after normal<br />

working hours.<br />

(02) Plan and manage the execution of Station operations.<br />

(03) Direct the duty section’s daily routine:<br />

a. Facility emergency plans (e.g. fire, bomb threats).<br />

b. Station security.<br />

c. Housekeeping and routine maintenance.<br />

d. Operations related administration (e.g. messages and reports).<br />

Specific duties of the OOD shall be defined in Station instructions. The<br />

authorities delegated to the OOD shall be designated in writing.<br />

F.5. Duty Boat<br />

Crew<br />

Stations shall maintain response boat crews in accordance with boat<br />

readiness requirements and all other appropriate guidelines set forth by<br />

the cognizant District Commander.<br />
