Chapter 1 – Station Organization and Watch-Standing<br />

D.8.a. Operations<br />

Officer Duties<br />

and<br />

Responsibilities<br />

The duties and responsibilities of the Operations Officer shall include the<br />

following:<br />

(01)<br />

Coordinate and control movements of boats (and vehicles, when<br />

operationally employed).<br />

(02) Prepare the daily operations schedule and duty section watch<br />

schedules.<br />

(03) Maintain boat and Station emergency bills.<br />

(04) Administer the Station’s operational readiness program for boats<br />

and associated equipment, including towing vehicles and trailers.<br />

age and direct training of Surfmen, Coxswains, Engineers,<br />

Boat Crew Members, and other Station duty standers.<br />

(05) Man<br />

(06) Coordinate training syllabi in accordance with pertinent<br />

Commandant directives.<br />

(07) Provide communications, weather, navigation, and public<br />

information services as required.<br />

(08) Supervise the Qualification Examining Boards and the Operations<br />

Standards Board.<br />

D.8.b.<br />

Communications<br />

Petty Officer<br />

Responsibilities<br />

The duties and responsibilities of the Head, Deck Department as Station<br />

Communications Petty Officer shall include the following:<br />

(01) Provide communications services as required.<br />

(02) Supervise the communications watch and handling of message<br />

traffic.<br />

(03) Administer communications procedures and training.<br />

(04) Provide control of classified material and cryptographic devices.<br />

(05) Provide control of communications equipment including portable<br />

radios.<br />

D.8.c. Navigation<br />

Petty Officer<br />

The duties and responsibilities of the Head, Deck Department as Station<br />

Navigation Officer shall include the following:<br />

(01) Provide charts, publications, navigation equipment, and records.<br />

(02) Maintain a list with the names of local and charted geographic<br />

points in the unit’s Area of Responsibility (AOR).<br />
