Petty Officer<br />

NOTE<br />

Designated Training Petty Officer (TPO) billets are assigned to manage<br />

the unit training program. This includes oversight of the unit’s reserve<br />

training program and facilitates improvements in reserve readiness for<br />

mobilization, reserve administration and reserve education opportunities.<br />

The TPO will normally be staffed<br />

with a Boatswain’s Mate (BM) equal<br />

to the pay grade of the XPO, but not less than E-6. See Part 3, Chapter<br />

1, Section D, Duties and Responsibilities paragraph D.13. The TPO<br />

shall maintain Coxswain qualifications on all platforms assigned in<br />

accordance with this Manual Part 4, Boat Crew Training, or as directed<br />

by the OIC. The TPO shall work directly for the XPO.<br />

If the requirement for an E-6 Boatswain’s Mate is unachievable due to the Aids to<br />

Navigation Team billet structure, the next senior BM shall perform this duty.<br />

Support<br />

D.5. Support<br />

Petty Officer<br />

The position of Support Petty Officer (SPO) was created to reduce/<br />

eliminate the Aids to Navigation Team finance, supply, and<br />

administrative workload from the Aids to Navigation Team’s Command<br />

Cadre. The SPO positions will be Storekeeper (SK) billets. These<br />

positions are day-worker positions and not intended to be Aids to<br />

Navigation Team duty stander positions. The SPO may perform the<br />

following duties:<br />

(01) Budgeting and accounting for, purchase/requisition, receipt,<br />

inspection, issue, stowage and preservation, packaging, shipment,<br />

disposal of, reutilization, and performance of inventory control<br />

for all property and materiel belonging to the Aids to Navigation<br />

Team(s).<br />

(02) Maintenance of all allowance documentation, and preparation of<br />

configuration change reports and allowance change requests;<br />

preparation of public vouchers, transportation requests and<br />

shipping documents.<br />

(03) Performance of traffic management/transportation functions<br />

including shipments, inspection, reservation, service orders, and<br />

claims relating to Government and personnel personal property.<br />

(04) Preparation of returns covering the receipts and expenditures of<br />

public monies.<br />
