Section G. Instructors and Trainees<br />

Introduction<br />

The instructor is involved primarily with the qualification phase of the<br />

training system. As such, the instructor is responsible for the initial<br />

training of the boat crew, ice rescuer candidate. This involves not only<br />

the introduction to the technical skills related to the boat crew position<br />

and boat type, but also the development and encouragement of those<br />

personal attributes which are most important to boat crew, ice rescuer<br />

personnel:<br />

(01) Judgment.<br />

(02) Leadership.<br />

(03) Confidence.<br />

(04) Cooperation.<br />

(05) Team coordination and risk assessment standards and concepts.<br />

G.1. Instructor<br />

Selection<br />

As a minimum, instructors must be certified at the crew position in the<br />

boat type in which they will be instructing, or an ice rescue train the<br />

trainer course graduate and currently certified as an ice rescuer. Beyond<br />

this, they should be individuals with demonstrated qualities of:<br />

(01) Judgment.<br />

(02) Patience.<br />

(03) Maturity.<br />
