Chapter 5 – Certification<br />

Section B. Initial Certification Requirements<br />

Introduction Each boat crew position has different tasks to accomplis h, thus each<br />

position requires different qualification requirements for certification.<br />

This Section discusses the various qualifications that each job requires.<br />

For certification, the following requirements must be met:<br />

Complete the applicable qualification tasks.<br />

(03) Complete an oral examination conducted by the unit BCEB.<br />

(04) Demonstrate proficiency during a comprehensive check-ride.<br />

(05) Personnel record entry and assignment of qualification code.<br />

Examination<br />

The trainee must satisfactorily complete the applicable qualification tasks<br />

including all type requirements for which the trainee is being certified.<br />

During a comprehensive check-ride, the trainee will demonstrate<br />

required proficiency, including the required “skills to observe” listed in<br />

this Manual Part 4, Chapter 3, Section E, Boat Crew Examination<br />

Board, paragraph E.5.<br />

Successfully complete an oral examination to be conducted by the unit<br />

BCEB on the following topics:<br />

(01) Policies and procedures.<br />

(02) Local knowledge without reference to charts and publications<br />

(may not be applicable to Cutters).<br />

(03) Application of team coordination and risk assessment standards<br />

and concepts.<br />

B.3.a. Boat Crew<br />

Member<br />

The Boat Crew Member should also be familiar with the following:<br />

(01) Seamanship and navigation.<br />

(02) Pertinent technical data for the boat type being certified on.<br />

(03) Other subjects as determined by the unit Commander.<br />

(04) ATON Boat Crew Member knowledge and skills (ANTs only).<br />
