Part 5 – Readiness and Standardization<br />

Chapter 5 – Boat Crew Qualifications and Performance Evaluations<br />

Section A. Procedures<br />

Introduction<br />

STAN Team and Operational Commander’s RFO evaluation teams shall<br />

conduct the following evaluations:<br />

(01) Knowledge-based testing.<br />

(02) Training records review.<br />

(03) Underway exercises.<br />

A.1. Knowledge-<br />

Based Testing<br />

After the in-brief, written tests will be administered to all qualified<br />

Coxswains, Engineers, and Boat Crew Members. Non-qualified<br />

crewmembers may also take the tests; however, their scores will not be<br />

recorded or reflected in the unit averages.<br />

(01) Tests will consist of questions concerning:<br />

a) Boat operations and missions.<br />

b) Boat specifications.<br />

c) First aid and survival.<br />

d) Rules of the road.<br />

e) Navigation.<br />

f) Engineering systems and components.<br />

(02) Engineers shall take a combined engineering and crewmember<br />

test.<br />

A.3. Exercises<br />

STAN/RFO will conduct the unit training system review. Certification<br />

for each boat crewmember, including Command Cadre, will be checked.<br />

Currency maintenance and underway hours will be compared to ensure<br />

compliance with requirements. If a member’s currency or certification is<br />

in question, the STAN Team or RFO leader shall resolve the issue or<br />

require another certified/current crewmember for that position during<br />

drills. Each situation of this nature shall be documented in the Readiness<br />

and Standardization Assessment report.<br />

The STAN or RFO evaluator will select exercises from the lists in the<br />

following section and determine how many of the exercises are required<br />

to adequately evaluate a unit.<br />
