The U.S. <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> oversees commercial vessel safety and operations<br />

and hazardous material transport and enforces standards for domestic and<br />

foreign flag vessels. The <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> also provides a safeguard to the<br />

nation’s ports, waterways, port facilities, vessels, persons, and property<br />

in the vicinity of the port from accidental destruction, damage, loss,<br />

injury, or environmental harm.<br />

Various sections of Titles 14, 16, 33, 46, and 50 U.S.C. contain authority<br />

to conduct the <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong>’s marine safety mission.<br />
