D.9. Rescue and<br />

Survival Systems<br />

Petty Officer<br />

The unit CO/OIC shall appoint a Petty Officer, in writing, to manage the<br />

Station’s rescue an d survival equipment. This individual shall:<br />

(01) Be a BM2/E-5 or above.<br />

(02) Be familiar with Reference (f).<br />

(03) Administer and coordinate the preventive/planned maintenance<br />

system (PMS) requirements through the appropriate departments.<br />

(04) Issue protective clothing and equipment (organizational clothing)<br />

and account for same using Personal Clothing and Equipment<br />

Form (AF Form 538).<br />

(05) Provide initial training to personnel during equipment issue.<br />

D.10. Law<br />

Enforcement/<br />

Weapons Petty<br />

Officer & SAI<br />

The senior Maritime Enforcement Specialist (ME) assigned to a Station<br />

is the Law Enforcement Instructor (LEI), Weapons Petty Officer & Small<br />

Arms Instructor (SAI). Their duties and responsibilities shall include the<br />

following:<br />

(01) Sets up and supervises the unit’s law enforcement training<br />

program IAW Reference (d).<br />

(02) Serve as Small Arms Instructor (SAI) and lead the unit’s weapons<br />

training program.<br />

(03) Serve as Boarding Officer.<br />

(04) Perform all applicable duties of Weapons Officer as outlined in<br />

Reference (i).<br />

(05) Serve on the unit’s LE training board.<br />

(06) Cultivate and nurture relationships with local Law Enforcement<br />

Agencies.<br />

(07) Maintain regular contact with Sector Intel Officer and serve as<br />

conduit for LE intelligence to and from the unit.<br />

(08) Encouraged to certify as Boat Crew Member (not required to<br />

stand regular duty).<br />

If Station PAL does not include an ME1, these duties and responsibilities<br />

will be assigned by the CO/OIC as collateral duties.<br />
