E.7. Boarding<br />

Officer<br />

Qualification<br />

Requirements<br />

Qualification as Boarding Officer requires successful completion of<br />

sections One and Two contained in Reference (tt).<br />

Completion of the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) BO<br />

resident training (Basic Boarding Officer Course BBOC) or Boarding<br />

Officer Practical Course (BOPC) is the minimum requirement for<br />

qualifying as a Boarding Officer. Upon returning to the unit, Boarding<br />

Officers can receive certification only from the Unit Commander. Once<br />

certified as BOs by the Unit Commander, BOs are required to maintain<br />

currenc y as directed in Reference (tt).<br />

Boarding Officer PQS tasks, with the exception of specialty and optional<br />

qua lification tasks, can be completed in approximately 90 days or less for<br />

a newly assigned member with no experience.<br />

Member experience, other unit work or duty, and unit specific PQS<br />

requirements, including specialty and optional law enforcement<br />

requirements, are the primary factors that should be considered in<br />

determining the time to allot.<br />

E.8.a. General<br />

Requirements<br />

All unit personnel tasked with Ice Rescue responsibilities shall be guided<br />

by the requ irements specified herein.<br />

Prospective Ice Rescuers shall complete the PQS tasks as prescribed by<br />

the Operational Commander.<br />

Ice Recue instructors must be command designated.<br />

CO/OIC can require completion of specialty and optional PQS<br />

certification.<br />

E.8.b. Ice. Rescue<br />

Qualification<br />

Requirements<br />

Qualification as an Ice Rescue Member requires completion of the PQS<br />

tasks prescribed by the Operational Commander. These tasks represent<br />

the minimum elements of skill, knowledge and performance necessary to<br />

safely and effectively execute the duties of an ice rescuer. Tasks should<br />

be learned through constant practice and under the guidance of the<br />

instructor.<br />

A record of the training accomplished shall be kept using the Task<br />

Accomplishment Record. The instructor is responsible for keeping the<br />

trainee’s qualification tasks correct and current at all times.<br />

When the trainee has successfully completed the qualification process,<br />

he/she is ready to begin the certification process.<br />
