The check-ride will be conducted by an experienced, certified Engineer<br />

from the BCEB. The evaluation should include drills involving<br />

propulsion equipment, damage control, and casualty control. Skills to<br />

observe include:<br />

(01) Area familiarization.<br />

(02) Boat engineering systems familiarization.<br />

(03) Pre-start checks and adjustments.<br />

(04)<br />

Monitoring of all engineering systems.<br />

(05) Simulated engineering casualties and correction procedures.<br />

(06) Shutdown and securing procedures.<br />

(07) Knowledge of general engineering specifications of the boat type.<br />

(08) Use of rescue and survival gear.<br />

(09) Emergency procedures.<br />

(10) Required preventive maintenance for the boat type.<br />

(11) Application of team coordination and risk assessment standards.<br />

(12) Operational Risk Management (ORM).<br />

The check-ride will be conducted by an experienced, certified Coxswain<br />

from the BCEB. The evaluation should include drills involving boat type<br />

familiarization, boat operations, crew control, mission management and<br />

the maturity and judgment necessary to perform as the boat Coxswain in<br />

the performance of PWCS missions. Skills and attributes to include:<br />

(01) Departure Planning.<br />

(02) Crew brief/debrief.<br />

(03) Area familiarization.<br />

(04) Navigation and piloting.<br />

(05) Boat handling.<br />

(06) Towing.<br />

(07) Person-in-the-water recovery.<br />

(08) Engineering casualty control.<br />

(09) Judgment.<br />

(10) Operational Risk Management (ORM).<br />
