Chapter 2 – Station (small) Standard Operating Procedures<br />

District Commanders and Sector Commanders<br />

B.1. District<br />

Commander’s,<br />

Sector<br />

Commander’s,<br />

and CO/OIC’s<br />

Responsibilities<br />

The District Commander, Sector Commander, CO/OIC shall:<br />

(01) Not impose operational or other requirements that conflict with<br />

the policies herein.<br />

(02) Schedule work and readiness in response to peak<br />

demand/maritime activity in the AOR.<br />

(03)<br />

Set a goal of a 68-hour maximum work week (including duty).<br />

(04) Not impose self-generated requirements that conflict with the<br />

policy herein or in higher existing Commandant Directives.<br />

B.2. District<br />

Commanders’<br />

Responsibilities<br />

District Commanders shall:<br />

(01) Designate Station (small).<br />

(02) Determine an appropriate mission employment for each Station<br />

(small) subject to the policies contained herein and without<br />

exceeding Commandant standards.<br />

(03) Develop a comprehensive mission plan for their District [Station<br />

(small)] Concept of Operations. Readiness postures for Station<br />

(small) shall be based upon:<br />

a) Operational requirements including, but not limited to, SAR<br />

demand, SAR system capabilities, and other <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Guard</strong><br />

missions and associated system capabilities.<br />

b) Local requirements including, but not limited to, operating area<br />

demographics, proximity to the parent Station, and prevailing<br />

weather and marine conditions.<br />

c) Workload factors including, but not limited to, the additional<br />

workload required to achieve and maintain certification on<br />

multiple boat types, and unproductive transit time to and from<br />

the duty location.<br />

(04) Review policies and procedures at Station (small) to determine<br />

what activities and requirements are self-imposed and not<br />

required.<br />
