CEMENTERIOS PATRIMONIALES, BIENES DE INTERÉSCULTURALEmilce Sosa – ArgentinaAbstractThe aim of this work is to highlight the importance of establishing criteria for thepreservation and protection of Patrimonial Cemeteries, since their material legacy hassurvived, over many years, to the indifference and oblivion on the part of the authoritiesand the families of the deceased, and to the constant acts of plundering and vandalismcommitted against monuments and objects of artistic and historical value found in oldcemeteries.Art and the History of Art may also be understood through funerary monuments,considering the evolution of material culture. We believe that increasing publicawareness may contribute in the process of renewing the appreciation of the value ofthis important Heritage.The symbols and the representation of Funerary Art reflect the way in which theRomantic man viewed his own death, and attempted to remain in the memory of theliving. Mendoza´s public Cemeteries have great patrimonial richness and restoring thevalue of their monuments is an attempt to recover part of their legacy.La Puesta en ValorPromover la valorización, protección y sustentabilidad de los cementerios tradicionaleso públicos es de vital importancia en los actuales momentos 1 debido a latransformación de las estructuras sociales y culturales. La Identidad es un factor desíntesis perpetuo que representa cada vez más la condición misma del progreso de losindividuos y los grupos de una sociedad.“(...)
