Introduction
Hydration level of human body is normally changes with in a small fluctuation on a
daily basis by intake of drink and food and by loses from the body by way of sweat loss,
respiratory and transcutaneous loss, and loss in the feces , with any excess contributing to
formation and excretion of urine (8,20). In this manner, euhydration is normally maintained in
a balance at normal condition of daily life.
In sport stages, dehydration is mostly occurred and replaced in time intervals and
recovery period by drinks and feeding. But, higher level of dehydration without adequate
compensation not only reduces athletic performance, but also places athletes at risk of health
problems and even indeed death (5,6,8,14). Together with the addition of hot weather,
accounted risks has been increased and can become more dangerous for athletes and impaired
their performance (1,18). Especially in weight category sports, because of the longer time of
dehydrated intervals and rapid weight lost practice during preparatory phases, hypohydration
is generally occurred for making weight and gaining success in competitions by athletes
(5,9,15,6,21,22,25). For those athletes, necessities and sustaining high power muscle action,
monitoring hydration status has significant value and also in maximising performance during
training and competition and also protect health continually in their life (14,..).
Inspection of published literature indicates that a number of method have been used to
determine the hydration status. The urinary measures are more sensitive and invulnerable at
indicating moderate levels of hypohydration than blood measurements (19).
Urine concentration and waste product is changes according to body water level
increase and decrease in the amount of urine produced this therefore, also has an influence on
the volume of urine formed. This situation gives available opportunities to way measuring
different hydration status of human (20).
Sports events determination of whole body hydration status from urine has been used
as easy and non-invasive method to athletes recently such as; osmolality, density, colour,
specific density and conductivity (19,20).
Although the teakwondo is one of the weight category sports such as wrestling, boxing
and judo and mostly weight lost practices are occurred in related sport surroundings, there is
no research study on those subjects especially related with hydration status to the best of our
knowledge. Therefore, the aim of present study was to determine and assess the hydration
status of elite teakwando players and it’s changing throughout camp season to an international
competition. Second aim was to identify whether the urine conductivity and colour are also
