mOsm/l in under normal condition (14,23). Separately, Sherrif and Maughan have shown
Uosm> 900 mOsm/l is consistent with dehydration (19,20).
Conductivity result of this study showed parallel finding with osmolality for 3
consecutive tests in direction of changing during camping (figure1) and positive high
correlation with it (p25
µS.cm-1) signify the measured osmollality (914-1112 mosmol.kg-1) in the study of Shirreffs
and Maughan (20). In present study, Hanna HI-9835 model conductivity meter and osmolality
results also showed parallel and similar tend for three consecutive testing with mentioned
study (Table 1). These results prove interchangeable using of osmolality and conductivity test
to determine hydration status for teakwondo athletes also.
Specific gravity results in present study for three measurements were around the 1.020
gr/ cm 3 (Table 1) and which can be considered to indicative mild hypohydration or upper limit
of euhydration (10,17,14,7,23).
Related articles published in sports publications (10,23), concentrated dark colored
urine is a sign of fluid deficits, pale yellow urine is a good for being sufficiently hydrated as a
simply and inexpensive method (2,3,4,19,23). Amstrong et all determined that Ucol >3 on the
clour scale can represents a state of dehydration (2). One other has shown Ucon = 4 is
consistent with dehydration (14). In present study although the second color test result was in
number 3, first and third trials were 4 and represent mild dehydrated status of teakwondo
athletes. In second trials for other urine parameters ( Uosm, Usgr, and Ucon) showed also
tend to euhydration (Table 1). Then again it reached to their higher values in measurement of
one day before the competition representing dehydration.
It might be the limitation of this study that if the measurement time of the last testing
would be held in weight in day morning. So, adequately effects of coming from weight lost in
athletes might be more identified in their changing of hydration status during camping to
competition then present study.
Finding from the present study, it can be concluded that there were at least mild
dehydrated status in even early morning resting time during camp season to international
competition for those teakwondo athletes as mean results. Osmolility, conductivity and color
results were in good agreement each other and with related literature. Colour and conductivity
can be use as an easy and inexpensive method assessing the hydration status of teakwondo
athletes and gives immediate feedback to athletes and coaches. Because the dehydrate status
