Wrestling is a the most natural and simplest sort of struggle without weapons<br />

among humans and goes back almost to the creation of humanity. Humans struggling<br />

and fighting with their enemies and with wild animals in order to protect themselves<br />

and to find food so as to make their livings and continue their self-existence in their<br />

primitive lives prior to the settlement in a certain place are acts that have led to<br />

wrestling. Simple actions such as natural and primitive holdings, blows, defense<br />

tactics and fights were improved over time as humans created more spare time for<br />

themselves after they collected their food and passed on to a settled life style. These<br />

actions were eventually transformed into a performance in front of spectators.<br />

Since wrestling, today, is accepted as a sport branch of sports that requires<br />

courage, reflex, talent, durability and strength in addition to the coordinated actions<br />

of all the body parts, it gains importance as a near-fighting sport and requires to start<br />

the trainings in the early years.<br />

Wrestling has remained as a popular sport throughout Turkey, and the city of<br />

Kahramanmaras is one of the wrestlering centers of Turkey. Many championships<br />

have been won in Greco-roman and freestyle wrestling by wrestlers from<br />

Kahramanmaras. There is a wrestling training center in Kahramanmaras and<br />

wrestlers train there from childhood.<br />

A wrestler with a high level of performance in this time may be described as a<br />

sportsman with wide shoulders and built up muscles in the arm, leg and back. The<br />

significant development of cervical musculature of a Greco-roman style wrestler<br />

enables him to perform the bridge actions safely during wrestling.<br />

The grip strength of subjects performing wrestling which is a sport naturally<br />

depending on the strength may be expected to be powerful. Our goal was to<br />

determine the grip strength and pinch power of wrestlers and university students and<br />
