Volcanic Areas (Andezitler): They lie down between Lapseki and Biga. There is
also a rather large volcanic block between Ayvacık, Babakale and Ezine. They are
covered with trees and rocks, in general. However, the parts with sand and light soils
are used as pasture (Bilgin T. 1965, Erol O. 1969, Yalçınlar İ. 1985).
Disability:
When the population is examined by disability, it is observed that 59 % of the
disable population consists of males. Physically disabled ones have the biggest share
with 40%. Mentally disabled and blind disabled ones have share of 14%. The speaking
disabled ones have the smallest share with 6% in Çanakkale.
Marital Status:
Married population has biggest proportion at all localities in Çanakkale. While
married is the lowest with 57% in the province center, this proportion increases to 67%
in villages. It observed that up to age 30, married females have a higher proportion than
married males and proportion of married males exceeds the proportion of married
females after this age.
Employment and Unemployment:
The share of employment population labor force is 97% for male population and
96% for female population. The structure employment population by economical
activity changes by locality and sex 41% is working in services sector. Approximately
81% of the employed female population is in the agriculture sector. The unemployment
rate the province center is higher than it is in the district centers. The unemployment
rate which is 9% in the province center is 6.8% in the district center. It is 1.7% in the
Çanakkale’s villages.
The proportion of the land where agricultural production is made to the land
existence in the city is 5%. Cereal grains, sunflower, olive, vegetable, fruit production
and stock-breeding form the most important sources of income. Olive production is like
the continuity of Aegean Region. Bean production has an important role on the exports
of inner bean production. The profit from the sunflower is above the average in Turkey.
