PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS’ OPINIONS ABOUT THE TEACHER BEHAVIOR<br />

ABSTRACT<br />

DIMENSION OF CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT<br />

Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the opinions of physical education teachers<br />

about the teacher behavior dimension of classroom management and to designate whether these opinions<br />

would change acoording to gender, profession age and school type of teachers.<br />

Methods: Questionnaires were administered to 500 physical education teacher from some cities<br />

of Turkey (Adana, Ankara, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, İstanbul, İzmir and Trabzon). In analysis of variables<br />

percentages, frequencies and X 2 test and alpha level used was 0.05.<br />

Results: Majority of participants’ answers showed that, teachers prefer to imbibe democratic life<br />

culture in classroom environment (%66), to determine the classroom rulls (%70) and classroom leader<br />

with students (%66.2), when share the theoretical part of the lesson, providing to share students<br />

knowledges by question and answer (%70.8), prefering the student centered instruction styles in practice<br />

part the lesson (%59.2), when the doing exercise, teachers prefer giving individual feedback (%67.6 ),<br />

when the teachers met a misbehavior, they prefer to warn student with soft voice and reminding the rulls<br />

(%52), for reinforcing the subject, they prefer to make students educational games (%55.8), when the<br />

evaluate students during the lesson, prefering the way of observation (%57.8) Also, significant<br />

difference was found between some variables by gender, profession age and school type (p < 0.05).<br />

Conclusion: As a result the opinions of physical education teachers about the teacher behavior<br />

dimension of classroom management shows similarity with teacher’s behavior who believe in student<br />

centered management comprehension.<br />

GİRİŞ<br />

Eğitim yönetimi sıra dizininin ilk ve temel basamağını oluşturan sınıf yönetimi, eğitimin<br />

amaçlarına ulaşmasında ayrı bir öneme sahiptir (Başar, 1994). Sınıf yönetiminin etkin ve verimli olması,<br />

bir bakıma izlenen yaklaşıma bağlıdır (Aydın, 2000). Literatürde yönetim anlayışları çeşitli yaklaşımlara<br />

göre sınıflandırılmıştır. Yönetim bilimleri alanında yapılan liderlik araştırmalarına dayalı olarak yönetim<br />

anlayışları karşımıza otokratik, demokratik ve ilgisiz olarak karşımıza çıkarken, Erken (2002)’e göre<br />

hem yönetici hem de yönetimin niteliği bürokratik, otokratik ve demokratik olarak karşımıza çıkar.<br />

Şişman ve Turan (2004), sınıf yönetimi anlayışlarının insana ilişkin bakış açılarına göre değişeceğini<br />
